The Thing Protecting Me

Closer than my own skin
Let's say akin beyond
Hugging the image behind
My happiest eye (tangential

Everything) including close
Deaths and the transcriptions,
The comprehensions
Translating sense into the

Nonsense so wonderful.
Well, something has been
Protecting, and, in the mornings,
When my tea is the sweet elixir,

In these mornings happening
Right now, when, believe it,
Prayers are rising and connected,
Believe it, to the smearing amber and azure,

And a girl somewhere knows
The heaven concept is not
Panglossian or the asylum domain,
And if so, and if so, stuff me and

Swallow the key, and may
Someone, somewhere, pray the
Little one doesn't end studying stock
Pages in empty castles, and in my

Milieu, let's be specific, in my
Little world (and I hope this makes
no sense), a nearly blind man, everyday,
Brings his dog, checkered white and

Black, into the casino, and I leave
My post, my bottles and ice, and I'm
Headed over, thinking, "Oh my God,
You are so incredibly great!"

*Why am I listing poems by genre now? Because it makes it easier for searchers who are looking for a poem on a particular topic. Is it somewhat reductive to categorize in this way? Yes, a bit...but, it allows more people to find my writings; so, it's a concession that I can live with...kf
